This is a photo from which I created my entry into the Rainbow Artists' show "Women Squared," to be exhibited at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. My entry will be some manipulation of this image in Photoshop. Come and see it. The reception will be March 3, in the Performing Arts Lobby west of the main galleries, 5:30 - 7 PM. Expect a large crowd, there will be a jazz band, cash bar and food. The Hispano Chamber of Commerce and KKOB will be having a business mixer/reception the same time

Mystery novels
I just returned from the monthly meeting of Croak & Dagger, the Albuquerque chapter of Sisters in Crime. The guest speaker tonight was Virginia Swift (she writes non-fiction under the name of Virginia Scharff). She's one of our local authors, as she teaches history at the University of New Mexico. The protagonist of her novels is Mustang Sally, and they take place in Laramie, Wyoming. Her books, in order from first to last, are Brown-Eyed Girl, Bad Company, Bye, Bye, Love, and hot off the press, Hello Stranger. I was lucky enough to score a free, autographed copy of the latter, having been the first one with chutzpah enough to ask for it at the end of the meeting. You can also sign up at www.AuthorTracker.com for email notice when her next book comes out from HarperCollins Publishers.

Welcome message
Welcome to my blog. I want to thank Marianne Powers for letting me know how easy this is, from her presentation at the Southwest Writer's meeting. Although my URL is a little long, I tried to make the title one which would pull up fewer items in a blogsearch, and Momentum wasn't available as a URL. If you have any suggestions for great titles and URLs, let me know. Meanwhile, I haven't decided how often I'll post to the blog, but I'll try for weekly. Later when I'm traveling, it might be more often. I anticipate posting some of the things that I'll be writing for self-publishing, and perhaps occasional journal entries. Maybe a rant or two. This blog doesn't have a specified theme, at least until I get the hang of it. Possible topics would include progressive or socialist politics, feminism, photography and other arts, and travel. My next big trip will probably be to France in August, to attend a seminar on Neuroscience and Consciousness with Thich Nhat Han, and then to hang out with my cousin at his farmhouse in Provence. I may, from time to time, insert a photo of my own, if I can get my scanner to work. If you want to see some of my photos now, you can go to www.joansaksberman.com and www.picturetrail.com/jberman. There's also a picture of me on that last one.
